  Sarah jane Mason, MT-BC

Sarah jane is a Music Therapist- Board Certified living in Cape Cod, MA.  She earned her B.A. Music Therapy from California State University Northridge (2008) and A.A Music & Liberal Studies from Santa Barbara City College (2004). As a music therapist, Sarah jane incorporates her therapeutic and music skills with her students utilizing piano, guitar, ukulele, percussion, and songwriting. Always seeking more knowledge and evidence based understanding of her allied health profession, Sarah jane is required to maintain a minimum of 100 hours of continuing education every 5 years, for which she primarily has interest in the areas of early childhood, adolescence, trauma, Autism, and other Developmental & Intellectual Disabilities

 

Music Therapy experience includes private practice, in-school, non-profit, and contract work. Her primary specialization is working with kiddos who have special needs, including those on the Autism Spectrum, but also provides services to a wide range of clients including older adults with Alzheimer's, and adults with developmental & intellectual disabilities. She has a true passion for leading clinical group drumming experiences for all ages and abilities through weekly groups and special events. Sarah jane has been Board Certified since 2009. 


Music teaching experience  Sarah jane has been teaching voice & piano professionally since 2003, and is an avid songwriter of music for "littles" and adults. Her vocal coaching style incorporates classical training as a base, while also encouraging a contemporary repertoire, improvisation, instrument playing, and songwriting. Sarah jane also offers a Kids Rock! Music Program for ages 4-10, and Adaptive Music Lessons for adults and kids with high functioning special needs. 


Performance experience    Sarah jane is an accomplished performer in music and theater venues across the country. Her varied experience includes acclaimed chamber choirs with full symphony orchestra; front vocalist for funk and soul bands; sit ins with international touring bands; night club jazz singing with an emphasis on improvisation; and solo/duo singer-songwriter performances. Her eclectic performance experience includes appearances at Carnegie Hall in NYC with the New England Symphonic Ensemble; Disney Concert Hall in LA with Grammy Winner, Dianne Reeves, Terrance Blanchard and the LA Philharmonic; Johnny Depp’s Viper Room in Hollywood as a solo singer/songwriter; guest songwriter in the Frank Brown International Songwriting Festival; and many professional and community theater productions throughout the Southeast U.S.
