Music Therapy & Group Drumming- Cape Cod

Life Rhythm Music Therapy currently has a few limited openings of availability for Music Therapy services and Group Drumming Experiences on Cape Cod.

A Music Therapy typical session involves a board certified-music therapist (MT-BC) facilitating evidence-based, therapeutic music interventions. The interventions are designed to address the client's non-musical goals. Goals and objectives are specifically tailored to each client's needs and follow their individualized treatment plan based on an initial formal evaluation. The therapist utilizes client preferred and age appropriate music; be it jazz or rap, classical or country, nursery rhymes or war time oldies.

Goals Addressed may include:

  • Expressive and Receptive Communication
  • Gross and Fine Motor Skills
  • Cognitive Skills
  • Social Skills
  • Emotional Regulation and Expression
  • Behavior Modification
  • Academic Skills
  • Preventive Wellness

Music Interventions may include:

  • Active music making such as singing, vocalizing, instrument playing, movement-to-music, improvisation, and drumming
  • Passive music experiences such as lyric analysis, lyric substitution, songwriting, and music listening

Assessment- Assessment is provided at a flat rate for service and includes:

  • 1-2 Individual sessions
  • Review of client's history with release of information from caregiver (IEP, other therapies' progress notes, phone interview with current therapists)
  • Personalized Music Therapy treatment plan
  •

Clinical Work Description

  • Following the assessment, goals and objectives are created for each individual, and are determined with existing IEP goals and other therapy goals in mind.

  • Sessions involve therapeutic music interventions used to work towards progress of the client's individualized goals and objectives. Sessions are documented in a treatment plan and delivered in accordance with standards of practice. Music selections as well as music making experiences are modified for client preferences and individualized needs.

  • Music Therapy techniques and approaches are founded in a variety of well-established theoretical models and approaches. My philosophy for music therapy treatment is centered on a humanistic, person-centered model, but can be modified to best fit the needs of the client.

  • Music Therapists work together as an interdisciplinary team with other therapists, teachers and care givers towards the goals of each individual.

  • Data is collected to show qualitative and/or quantitative results towards each client's goals.
